Today, we finally arrive in New York. It is a great day in the city, despite the fact that it might rain. Reading the news this morning left an unsettling feeling in my stomach, as it often does--but just like love or inebriation i still do it over and over to myself. Our van, "White Light, White Heat" is still in Boston getting proper attention and Forrest found a way to transport all our equipment into the city for tonight and tomorrow's show--thanks to the kindness of fans, again. We feel very blessed.
Yesterday I got news that my brother was ill, being cared for, but ill. My heart is heavy and i suspect it will be one of those shows tonight where everything is put out there. Catharsis has it's place in this band, which i suppose goes without saying, but sometimes more than other times. All this heavy wieght in my head and heart has got me thinking about the book of short stories I've never finished. I have a number of stories and prose but i keep revising them, showing them only to very few people i trust. Hopefully i will gather the will and the nerve to finish it soon enough.
On the flip side our tour with The Tallest Man on Earth has been great and we have gotten on in so many fantastic ways, that i will hate to see it come to an end soon. Aside from keeping busy with writing, I have been working on a music video for Tallest Man on Earth, which will be my first DIY styled video outside of our band. I think it will be great, it is almost done. Hopefully you guys like it. I have shown it to TMoE and he digs it. Hopefully the finished version is to everyone's liking. Either way it is another great form of expression and I am learning a lot more everyday. I just saw a clip of "Seventh Seal" by Bergman and I think I will cop some ideas from that for a future project, well, probably not.
Anyhow, on the band front, we are doing great. 47 days on the road and 46 days left. It has been treating us well and we are learning how to balance inebriation with health, work with play, stress with tranquility. I have, surprisingly, not gotten as sick as i usually do on tours, so knock on wood, ojala for that. I read David Sedaris' "Naked" which was hilarious. Just finished Bob Dylan's "Chronicles" which was insightful. Now sticking with my poetry books (Baudelaire and Shelley) for a spell until someone throws something my way that really sticks.
This blog has been a bit verbose, sorry for that. I have to go now. We are filming some live acoustic footage under a bridge in Brooklyn in a few hours before the show. Will update you all soon.
blessings and love
