30 May
Two Saddest Dogs
They were the two saddest dogs I’d ever seen.
They had weak barks but they had a lot of class.
They were hopped up on morphine,
And their rotting teeth gave them away
They slept in alleys and unkempt parks
They always kept one eye open.
In the daylight hours they anticipated night
In the evenings they wondered where the day went
They were sad dogs
Panting in the chill of winter
And shivering in the dog days of summer.
Withered, but with erect constitutions
